Primary Focus
Coordinates and oversees all adaptive recreation programming, classes, events, and responsibilities. In addition, may serve as a resource to staff Citywide on Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, individual disabilities, and accommodations in consultation with the City ADA Coordinator, while building community-wide adapted programming to meet the needs of the adaptive population.
Given the nature of this classification's duties/responsibilities, it has been designated as Non-Exempt under the governing Fair Labor Standards Act regulations and, therefore, is entitled to formal overtime compensation and/or formal compensatory time.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Examples of Duties
Essential Functions
- Develops and coordinates all adaptive recreational programming, classes, and/or activities; evaluates adaptive program area by utilizing feasibility assessments and recommends program changes to identify future program needs; administers programs including scheduling of staff, equipment and supplies, facilities, and logistical planning to ensure compliance with city guidelines and the program budget.
- Prepares inclusion support plan for success in all programming areas by working in collaboration with staff to identify successful accommodations for participants and meets with program staff to provide support for accommodation plans.
- Supports community-wide adaptive programming; coordinates and facilitates adaptive recreation workshops, classes, and adaptive training programs within our agency and the community; partners with other Department/Divisions and organizations such as the Division of Parks Operations, Division of Volunteer Resources, Division of Events Administration, Dublin City Schools, community programs and businesses, to develop classes, accommodations, and act as a referral base for families in the community.
- Consults with the City ADA Coordinator as appropriate and keeps apprised of any needed information.
- Maintains familiarity with ADA law, regulations, and federal, state and county waivers to better educate all staff and community about individual disabilities and successful accommodations; collaborates with other staff to develop, plan, and implement staff training modules based on adaptive programming needs.
- Coordinates the process of purchasing memberships/pool passes for individuals utilizing waiver funding.
- Completes inquiry of need/evaluation process to determine appropriateness of a program or identify the appropriate camp for the individual; Utilizes knowledge of special education processes and related documentation, including IEP, ETR, 504 Plan, etc. to develop necessary supports or accommodations.
- Leads team of camp Adaptive Assistant Supervisors to coordinate and implement accommodations and troubleshoot situations related to inclusion for children with disabilities or special needs in summer day camps. Plays an integral role in day-to-day camp operations across a ten-week summer camp season in collaboration with the Recreation Camps Coordinator and Preschool, Youth and Teen team.
- Assist with behavior management and camper healthcare form review.
- Assists with supervision of part-time/seasonal staff, including recruitment, development, certification, performance evaluation, scheduling, and discipline
- Provides programming based on the special needs population; determines recreational needs of this population by surveying participants and strategic plan development for program area.

Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Education, Social Work, Psychology, or other relevant field and considerable relevant experience with developmental disabilities, general recreation programming, and sound financial practices, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of recreation concepts, principles, methods, and practices specific to assigned program area.
- Knowledge of supervisory concepts, principles, methods, and practices.
- Knowledge of budgeting concepts, principles, methods, and practices.
- Computer software skills specific to assigned recreation program area (RecTrac and Kronos software.)
- Knowledge of the Dublin community and the population we serve preferred.
- Ability to work independently, but in a team environment.
- Ability to clearly communicate both oral and written information/instructions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move about the inside of an office space to access file cabinets and office equipment.
- Constantly operate a computer and other office machinery, such as a copier, fax machine, mobile device, shredder, scanner, etc.
- Must be able to remain in stationary position at workstation throughout scheduled workday.
- Ability to exchange information with co-workers and citizens through use of email system, the telephone, and in-person interactions.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. with the help of equipment/devices, on an infrequent basis.
- Ability to enter data into computer system in a sustained manner.

HEALTH BENEFITS
The City of Dublin offers a high deductible health care plan through United Healthcare that provides 100% coverage for preventative care. Employee or family coverage is available. Additionally our integrated wellness program, Healthy by Choice (HBC), allows employees to earn a waiver of all or a portion of the medical plan premiums.
HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT/HEALTH REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNT
Annually, the City will deposit 75% of your health insurance deductible amount into an HSA account in your name.
VISION AND DENTAL
The City pays 100% of the premium for dental and vision. Coverage levels will be explained in further detail at time of hire.
LIFE INSURANCE
The City pays 100% of the premium for 1.5 times your salary up to $150,000 term life insurance coverage for the employee. Supplemental insurance is available.
RETIREMENT PENSION
The City contributes 14% monthly toward retirement benefits offered through the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System. The employee pension payment share is 10% of gross salary.
VACATION
New employees accrue two weeks of paid vacation their first year. Vacation time increases with length of service time. Prior public service may be honored as service credit for vacation accrual.
PERSONAL LEAVE
Employees receive five prorated days of personal leave annually.
SICK LEAVE
Employees are advanced three sick days at the time of hire and accrue nine sick days in total annually.
OTHER
Ten paid holidays per year, employer paid short term disability, tuition reimbursement of up to $5,000 annually, recreation membership , and longevity pay after four years of full time completed service with the City of Dublin.
