Duties

Help

Manages and supervises the day-to-day operion of one fitness facility which may include a group exercise class facility or pool bhhouse.

Inspects and maintainsequipment and facilities in accordance with all established Navy and industry operional guidelines/standards. Ensures all repairs and maintenance of furniture, fixtures and equipment are completed in a timely manner.

Supervises approprie staff with may include NF-0189-03 Recreion Assistants (Fitness Instructor); NF-0189-02 Recreion Assistants (Aerobic Exercise Instructor); NF-0189-01 Recreion Aids (Fitness) and massage therapists.

May oversee actions of contracted instructors or message therapists.

Responsible for training, supervising and scheduling staff. Interviews and prepares necessary paperwork for approval for hiring personnel.

Evalues employee performance, inities approprie disciplinary action and recommends other pertinent personnel actions.

Develops, coordines, implements and continually modifies a comprehensive group exercise program consisting of a variety of class styles. Ensures th all classes are taught in a safe and effective manner.

Provides technical guidance to fitness instructors.

Designs, organizes and carries out special events and health promotion projects within this area. Provides informion for publicity releases and coordines with marketing professionals to maximize participion.

Assists with developing annual budget requirements for assigned areas. Analyzes financial da, reviews budget and submits reports and recommendions.

Oversees resale operions and monitors all program revenue and expenses in areas of responsibility. Ensures reports and records are properly submitted.

Submits completed Appropried Fund (APF) and Non-Appropried Fund (NAF) purchase orders for equipment, parts, supplies and service contracts for approval. Maintains accure inventory of all property.

Crees and oversees a variety of exercise and wellness programs to include safe and beneficial exercise prescriptions for cardiovascular fitness, weight loss, strength conditioning and flexibility.

Ensures prescriptions are in accordance with American College of Sports Medicine guidelines.

Identifies cardiovascular risk factors and other limiting conditions via medical health history questionnaires.

Refers prons to medical personnel when necessary.

Supervises, instructs and demonstres the proper and safe operion of exercise equipment.

Ensures staff is properly trained in the use of cardiovascular fitness machines and strength training equipment.

Monitors informion given to prons for accuracy.

Supervises and delivers a comprehensive exercise and wellness assessment program.

Performs various physiologic and wellness reled tests and screenings for prons.

Consults with prons with regard to test results and establishes exercise and nutrition programs accordingly.

Trains and monitors employees in the delivery of the assessment program.

Develops and presents lectures and educional merials for local military commands.

Topics include, but are not limited to, Navy Physical Readiness Program administrion, exercise programming, nutrition awareness, cardiovascular risk factor modificion, and sports conditioning development.

Consults with local command on issues reling to command conditioning programs and fitness center design.

Complies with EEO policies and communices support of these policies with subordines.

Assures quality in determining selections, assignments, training, promotions, qualificions, discipline and awards to employees.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigion. Background Investigions are conducted using fingerprint identificion and completion of background inquiry forms.

Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verificion check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.

The work requires standing, sitting, walking and lifting 50 pounds or more while performing duties.

Irregular working hours may be required to include early shift, le shift, evenings, weekends and holidays when the need arises.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscition and First Aid certificion is required.

Certificion from a nionally recognized agency in the area of exercise science or be able to obtain certificion within 90 days of employment.

Qualificions

One-year supervisory experience in a fitness center.

Knowledge of various strength training machines and cardiovascular fitness equipment.

Ability and knowledge to perform minor repairs and maintenance of exercise equipment.

Experience with exercise physiology, exercise prescription for apparently healthy populions and for individuals with physical problems/conditions (hypertension, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, pulmonary restrictions , musculoskeletal problems, chronic back pain and pregnancy), exercise and medicion interactions, electrocardiography, kinesiology, anomy and nutrition.

Minimum of one year experience conducting graded exercise test on a stionary bike or treadmill with an electrocardiogram (EKG), performing body composition, lung function, flexibility, blood cholesterol and strength assessments.

One-year experience counseling individuals on their results and recommending fitness and lifestyle changes to make healthful changes.

Must be able to identify disease-reled risk factors and be capable of assisting individuals with risk factor modificion through exercise, diet, stress management, and other lifestyle changes.

Ability to evalue the effectiveness of all programs and to make recommendions for improving or correcting them.

Ability to develop and customize presentions and address groups. Ability to speak to individuals/groups regarding fitness and lifestyle modificion is required.

Ability to maintain records and reports, follow verbal and written instructions, and communice effectively with others.

Educion

Certificion from a nionally recognized agency such as the American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise, or Cooper Clinic for Aerobic Research in the area of exercise science or be able to obtain certificion within 90 days of employment.
