The SBDCRC School of Dance at Prince William County, Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for additional dance instructors for our 2025 2026 school year. Our growing program is family-friendly and community-oriented, offering high quality dance instruction for beginner through advanced students.

This is a part time position. Skills must include at least one or two of the following: Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Creative Movement. Preferred skills include strong ballet technique, versatility in training, and ability to teach multiple disciplines. Instructors are required to follow a curriculum. Excellent communication skills are a must. All teaching tools will be provided and classes will be taught in a dance studio at the Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center.

NATURE OF WORK
This class is part of the Recreation Job Family. Incumbents perform routine work in connection with various recreation programs or activities. Instructors in this classification teach beginner and intermediate specialty level classes. Example; beginner/intermediate ballet, tap, jazz, safety, CPR, first aid, mini camps, environmental education and parent/child classes. May provide daily upkeep and light maintenance of equipment and facility.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable code of conduct rules; providing customer services. Work is performed in accordance with set procedures and guidelines, and deviation from those guidelines require approval.

1. Carrying out program plans, activities, and lessons. Sets up equipment or materials needed for a class and cleans up after program.

2. Provides excellence in customer service by answering questions and providing information to the public.

3. Maintains and prepares equipment and facility and maintains related records.

4. Enforces program and facility rules; provides emergency care and treatment as required.

5. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Dependent on course requirements. Minimum of one year instructional experience in related program area. Requires complex certification with regular additional training or education for maintenance of certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: May require exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
