Individual will: be involved in leadership work at an assigned recreational area; will supervise, instruct and participate in games; assist in organizing recreational activities; be responsible for transporting campers from Armory to pool or on field trips; provide correct, courteous answers to verbal inquires; and perform other duties as assigned. Counselors must be able to perform all job duties in extreme heat conditions, including summer temperature of 95 degrees and above. Employees in this position work under supervision, and their work is subject to frequent inspection and review by supervisory personnel through conferences and attendance reports.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must: be at least 18 years of age, possess and maintain a valid Missouri Driver's license; have the desire to work with kids of all ages; be able instruct at-risk/low income children and youth in various recreational activities; be able to plan and organize programs; have knowledge of the principles, rules, materials and equipment required for a variety of recreational activities; have the ability to give routine instructions and resolve disputes with firmness and impartiality; be able to run, jump, bend and stoop to participate in athletic activities or carry supplies; attend mandatory staff meetings; follow dress code policy; have excellent customer service/customer relation skills; have the ability to work independently; and be reliable.

Temporary/Seasonal employees do not qualify for sick, holiday or vacation pay. Pay checks are issued bi-weekly. This is a year-round position.

A temporary employee position is one created and intended to exist for less than one thousand four hundred fifty (1,450) hours in any calendar year. Temporary employees have no seniority, grievance, or appeal privileges. Temporary employees shall have no benefits except as required by law.

A temporary employee position may be full-time, part-time, variable hour or seasonal.

Hours

Monday through Friday from the beginning of June to the first week of August; 7:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.
