SUMMARY:

Western Wyoming Community College is seeking a dynamic and student-centered instructor to teach a Beginning Yoga course. This course introduces students to the fundamental principles, techniques, and practices of yoga, including foundational postures, breathing methods, and mindfulness. The instructor will create an engaging and supportive learning environment that blends guided practice with instruction on alignment, safety, and personal well-being, helping students develop physical awareness, flexibility, strength, and an appreciation for yoga as a lifelong wellness practice.

It is expected that this individual will accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective, competent manner and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. This individual will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.

YOGA PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE

  • Teach assigned Beginning and Advanced Yoga courses in accordance with the approved course descriptions, learning outcomes, and institutional policies.
  • Plan and deliver engaging yoga instruction that incorporates safe practice, appropriate sequencing, and adaptations for students of varying experience levels and physical abilities.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment that encourages student participation, body awareness, and personal wellness.
  • Ensure student safety during all course activities, including field trips and overnight outings.
  • Prepare and deliver lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with course outcomes.
  • Ability to work with and support diverse student populations, including those with little to no prior yoga experience.
  • Teaches courses in a variety of environments and modes as required. Courses may be offered in the fall, spring or summer semesters and on varying schedules, and may meet during the day, evening, weekend, or at one of WWCC's outreach centers.
  • Designs and implements effective learning processes for students; provides feedback on student improvement in attaining the College's Learning Goals.
  • Learns to communicate clearly and effectively using the college network system, Canvas, and word processing; integrates learning with technology into the classroom as appropriate.
  • Refers students to the resources in the College Learning Center, Peer Tutor Center, Library, Career and Placement Services, and Wellness & Accessibility Center.
  • Maintains an inventory of all assigned equipment and supplies in assigned areas; takes prudent efforts to safeguard WWCC physical resources from unauthorized use.
  • Submits syllabi, student evaluations, grades, and other required information in a timely manner.
  • Submits any relevant re-certification documents in a timely manner and completes End-of-Year Evaluations as requested by the Division Chair.

Minimum Qualifications

YOGA MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities)

  1. An associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the field and/or a combination of education, training and tested experience in the discipline.

Four Qualifying Options

  • Option #1: Intensive Yoga Instructor Training, Yoga Training in India, 500 hours or more of practice and training. Documented area of expertise and experience. Current CPR certification.
  • Option #2: Current CPR certification, minimum of Yoga Alliance/ RYT 200-hour training with a minimum of associate's degree and passing grades in A & P. Documented training and experience.
  • Option #3: Current CPR certification, ACE, ACSM, or NASM Personal Trainer certification and/or Group Fitness Instructor certification, Yoga Instructor Certification and documented area expertise and experience.
  • Current certification (certification must be maintained; continuing education should be completed every 1-2 years and/or as required by certification(s).
  • Continuing Education: This includes attending conferences specific to your certification or general fitness conferences such as ACE, ACSM, SCW, IDEA, etc. or can include online webinars for teaching that are specifically geared toward the type of class you teach.

Equivalency Statement

For those who do not exactly meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications

YOGA POWERLINE PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Abilities, Education and Experience)

  • Demonstrated experience teaching at the community College level.
  • Professional experience as a yoga instructor.
  • Experience teaching or facilitating yoga courses at the college or community level.
