Certified Athletic Trainer
JOB SUMMARY:
At the direction of the Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program Medical Director(s), the Certified Athletic Trainer would assume responsibility for planning and directing the exercise progression of patients in all phases of the Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. Work closely with the Program Director(s) and the Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program staff to prescribe, implement, and evaluate patient's individual activity/exercise levels, while sharing the responsibility for patient and family education. Interpret exercise tolerance test to formulate exercise prescriptions.
PRE-REQUISITES:
Education: Bachelor's Degree Required
Experience: 3-5 years' experience designing exercise and fitness programs, 1-3 years medical experience
Special Skills: Ability to take vital signs and assess for abnormal result, Able to identify abnormal rhythm on EKG/telemetry.

Providers and their staff, Cardiologist, patients and their families, hospital staff & community resource staff

Machinery or Equipment Used:
Computers, office equipment, medical equipment, patient monitoring and resuscitation equipment, EKG machine, telemetry
Physical Demands:
May require prolonged standing (up to 4 hrs), fine motor manipulation required, may have frequent neck flexion for typing or taping or for holding an extremity.
Working Conditions:
Indoors, intermittently stressful due to medical condition of patients and occasional crisis situation, multiple interruptions, patients are seen in a group setting
Required Protective Equipment:
As needed in OR, routine PPE for office based patients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Recognizes and assesses acute injuries of athletes.
Provides pre- and post-game medical support to athletes; e.g. taping, wrapping, icing, whirlpool; Develops and implements conditioning programs for athletes in conjunction with coaches and Physical Therapists; Assesses and treats athletic injuries per NATA and NMC Standard of Care;
Demonstrates the clinic specific skills requisite for unit/patient population served.

Treats appropriate outpatients per NMC and state licensure regulations.
Provides coverage for Rehab Aide for inpatient/outpatient settings; Performs appointment scheduling and chart management; Organizes patient flow and confirms schedules; Collects appropriate data; Sends and receives patient information; Schedules appointment meeting all insurance and regulatory requirements; Uses computer systems accurately to complete registration, order review, etc
Communicates with patients, team members, and management in an accurate and timely manner evidenced by:
Talks with and listens to patients/team members; Reports pertinent, concise information; Completes timely clinical documentation/order entry; Protects confidentiality of patient/colleagues
Manages self and resources effectively.
Acknowledges limits of experience and capability; Identifies learning needs and seeks resources; Utilizes equipment and supplies appropriately; Maintain clean, orderly environment of care; Seeks out and accepts feedback
