Advertisement Text Position Purpose

Under the leadership of the Outdoor Programs Office (OPO) director, the Lifeguard Manager is responsible for the swimming operations at the Dartmouth waterfront swim dock on the Connecticut River. This includes scheduling, training, and managing lifeguard staff, maintaining the waterfront facility, ensuring safe operations and following risk management protocols, and lifeguarding. The Lifeguard Manager is a seasonal, part-time position, anticipated 20 - 30 hours per week.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma plus two years of work experience.
  • Documented management or leadership experience.
  • Documented experience lifeguarding in non-pool locations.
  • Current lifeguarding certification from an accredited provider with corresponding certifications in CPR/AED.
  • Current First Aid certification or greater.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Waterfront lifeguard training or lifeguard management training from American Red Cross or another accredited provider.

FLSA Non-Exempt Employment Category Temporary Part time Schedule

The waterfront dock is open 1:30 pm - 8 pm on weekdays and 11:30 am - 8 pm on weekends.

Key Accountabilities

Managing Lifeguard Staff - 75%

  • Selects and trains waterfront lifeguard staff.
  • Creates and manages the lifeguard schedule to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Reviews and approves timesheets for lifeguard staff.
  • Procures and maintains items needed for guarding.
  • Supports administrative tasks for tracking and obtaining certification of lifeguard staff.
  • Manages and mentors the work performance of lifeguard staff.
  • Serves as an on-duty lifeguard.

Risk Management and Safe Operations - 20%

  • Follows and appropriately applies waterfront operational policies; ensures lifeguard staff are able to do the same.
  • Maintains emergency response equipment.
  • Reports incidents in a timely manner and follows risk management processes.
  • Communicates directly with Department of Safety and Security, OPO, and other appropriate groups for ensuring emergency support.
  • Maintains communication protocols for lifeguard staff.

Facilities Operation- 5%

  • Ensures appropriate care of waterfront facility and swim dock, reporting issues to the OPO director.
    • Demonstrates professionalism and collegiality through actions, interactions, and communications with others appropriate to an environment that is welcoming to all. -- Performs other duties as assigned.
