Burningtree Country Club is a private club located in Decatur, Alabama with approximately 410 members. The club offers a 24,000 clubhouse with dining, banquets and weddings along with golf, swimming, fitness center and tennis.
Golf
The 18-hole George Cobb designed course golf course opened in 1966 and features 7,005 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.2 and it has a slope rating of 125. The course spreads over 150 acres and features Champion Bermuda greens and 419 Bermuda Fairways, providing optimal playing conditions for all skill levels.
The Spirit of America Amateur Golf Classic is our long-running, fundraising golf tournament held annually in conjunction with Decatur's Spirit of America Festival, which itself is one of the largest, free Fourth of July festivals in the south. The Spirit of America Amateur Golf Classic was established in 1967, our third year of operation, and has been home to collegiate players and top amateur players from across the nation.
The 72-hole, stroke play event, with a 54-hole collegiate team division, is truly one of a kind. Nationally sanctioned for player points by Golfweek/Titleist and regionally sanctioned by the Alabama Golf Association as a "Major, the tournament boasts many top graduates. like 1995 Champion-turned-PGA tour player Heath Slocum, and 1989 Junior Champion-turned-PGA tour player Stewart Cink.
Burningtree has played host to the Men's Alabama State Amateur Golf Tournament (1994); the Women's Alabama State Senior Tournament (2002), and the 2005 NGA Hooters Professional Golf Tournament.
Dining
At 24,000 square feet, the clubhouse at Burningtree is chock full of the facilities and equipment you would expect from a full-service country club with as active a membership as we enjoy. The main level offers a variety of dining areas with golf course views all around, convenient to the golf shop and the men's and ladies' locker rooms. Formal dining is available featuring the Chef's monthly "Creations Menu". You can enjoy a great grill menu in the 19th hole that was also created by our 5 star culinary chef, Christopher Hughes.
Upstairs, the Lounge serves our diners, while The 19th Hole downstairs sees to the needs of golfers coming off the 18th hole. Meeting and conference rooms can be combined from one big room to five breakout rooms, seating from 5 to 500 people.
Fitness
If Fitness is on your agenda, you can get healthy and in shape by visiting our high tech fitness facility. We feature Precor and Cybex machinery, along with free weights; tread mills, elliptical machines and much more. It's 1,200 square feet with great golf course views. Participate in yoga, Zumba, circuit training and more! Work up a training plan with a Fitness Professional as your guide.
Tennis
Burningtree offers four, lighted tennis courts.
Pool
Burningtree has an Olympic pool along with a childrens pool and a childrens playground located in the pool area. The 19th Hole Bar & Grill is a short distance away
Minimum Qualifications for the Head Golf Professional:
- 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be a Class A Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) member.
- Private club experience preferred.

Essential Functions and Accountabilities
- Promotes and executes member events and daily play.
- Provides a professional atmosphere that the members and guests would be proud to recommend potential members to join.
- Oversees golf operations including tournaments, rules, tee sheet activity, merchandise inventory, range operations, player service operations, cart fleet
- Assists in the development and day to day tracking of the budget and business plan. Helps to control expenses in relation to revenues.
- Creates a customer service oriented atmosphere that promotes the game of golf and meets the needs of the members. Ensures that associates provide a high level of customer service.
- Works closely with the Superintendent and the Food and Beverage Manager on a daily basis to ensure timely communication and to establish a good working relationship.
- Prepares work schedules and assigns associates areas of responsibility.
- Performs payroll tasks as scheduled and makes adjustments prior to submitting to payroll. Monitors hours to maximize productivity and minimize overtime.
- Provides leadership and vision to golf staff, building people, and preparing them for career advancement.
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Assures that effective orientation and training are given to each new associate. Develops ongoing training programs.
- Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
