ABOUT The Summer Camp Instructor - STEM is responsible for delivering an engaging and educational STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program for campers. This role involves facilitating hands-on activities and experiments that promote curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving, while maintaining a positive, safe, and inclusive environment. Instructors will guide campers through exciting challenges and projects, all of which are designed to spark creativity and foster a love of STEM subjects. WHAT YOU WILL DO Program Leadership Lead and facilitate daily camp programming for assigned groups of campers. Prepare in advance to effectively deliver camp curriculum, activities, and demonstrations. Teach the principles, techniques, and safe use of equipment related to camp activities. Adapt activities as needed to meet camper skill levels and engagement needs. Maintain an energetic, positive, and structured learning environment. Camper Supervision and Safety Maintain active supervision of campers at all times to ensure safety and well-being. Observe camper behavior and apply appropriate behavior management techniques. Ensure all camp rules, safety protocols, and facility guidelines are followed. Identify potential hazards and respond quickly to safety concerns. Document and report any injuries, incidents, or safety issues according to policy. Camp Experience Management Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all campers. Introduce new campers and help facilitate positive group dynamics. Communicate clearly with campers, parents, camp leadership, and fellow staff. Assist in evaluating camp programming and recommend improvements or adjustments. Staff Coordination Provide direction to Assistant Instructors during camp activities. Delegate support tasks as needed to ensure smooth camp operations. Work collaboratively with camp leadership and other instructors. COMPETENCIES Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to lead groups of children in structured activity environments Strong communication and leadership skills Ability to teach and demonstrate activity-based skills Effective behavior management and group supervision High level of organization, energy, and reliability Commitment to creating a positive and safe camp experience SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Direct Supervision Work Environment: Work may include indoor and outdoor settings and may occur outside of standard business hours Physical Demands: Standing, walking, bending, and participating in camp activities Ability to lift or move up to 30 lbs. Ability to participate in games and recreational activities Ability to remain attentive while supervising campers Travel Required: No If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record. WHO YOU ARE Required Education High school diploma or equivalent Preferred Education Additional education or certifications in a STEM-related field are highly preferred Preferred Experience Experience working with youth (ages 4-17) Experience leading group activities, camps, youth programs, or instruction Additional Job-Specific Requirements Must be able to learn camp content with provided training, and effectively teach to campers.
