Byrd High School County: Harrison County Schools TITLE: Athletic Trainer MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Proof of Valid NATABOC certification; proof of registration with WV Board of Physical Therapy PREFERRED: Professional licensure and an employee of the Harrison County Board of Education IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal SELECTION: The position is filled by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools SALARY: Per Harrison County Board of Education extra-curricular assignment schedule FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Support state, county and school athletic and athletic trainer policies and procedures. Exemplify appropriate personal conduct, including dependability, reliability, punctuality and self-control. Recommend the administrators the purchase of equipment and training supplies, which are within the athletic budget. Maintain inventory of medical supplies. Provide first aid services in the event of injuries and refers athletic to competent medical attention, if necessary. Act as a screening and referral agent for physician. Provide services which aid in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Assist in selecting and fitting protective equipment. Apply protective equipment and preventive taping as directed by team physician. Aid head coach in developing a plan of preseason conditioning to minimize the possibility of injury. Advise coaching staff on conditions of heat, humidity, and other factors which may cause dangerous stress to athletes. Advise coaches and athletes on general health concepts such as nutrition, rest and fluid intake. Supervise treatment and rehabilitation of athletes as directed by physician. Work with administrator to secure emergency medical services to be on hand or available at all games and scrimmages. Keep adequate records in regard to physician referrals, patent progress, treatment, rehabilitation, and insurance information. Present at all practices and games of assigned athletic team. Give support and is loyal to the head coach in conducting the program. Attend all staff meetings during the year, when called by the head coach. Maintain a list of all parents home and/or business phone numbers in case of emergency notifications. Maintain an adequate training facility in order to render appropriate athletic training services.
