The City of Kingman is hiring Seasonal Part-Time Water Safety Instructors to teach swimming, water safety, and diving skills at City pools during the summer season. This role combines hands-on instruction with active pool supervision to create a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment for patrons of all ages. Instructors also support daily aquatic operations and help keep pool facilities clean, safe, and organized.

About You:

You bring a patient and positive attitude and have the ability to communicate clearly with students, parents, and staff. You're someone who can enforce pool rules, remain alert, and respond calmly in emergency situations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys teaching and spending time in and around the water.

  • At least 16 years of age (must be 15 to enter the Red Cross certification program with instructor approval)

  • Some experience working with the public

  • Valid Water Safety Instructor certification (Ellis, Red Cross, Starguard)

  • Ability to complete or convert to Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification

  • CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications

  • Lifeguard certification preferred

  • Ability to work early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Water Safety Instruction & Lesson Delivery (45%): Teach water safety, swimming, and diving skills following Red Cross guidelines. Assess student skill levels, deliver age-appropriate instruction, prepare lesson plans and session goals, and maintain a positive learning environment that supports skill development and safety.

Pool Safety & Supervision (25%): Monitor pool activities during lessons to prevent accidents and enforce pool safety rules. Assist with rescues and emergency response when needed, following training protocols and using appropriate personal protective equipment.

Records & Program Support (20%): Maintain accurate rosters, attendance records, lesson paperwork, and required Red Cross and City documentation. Respond to public questions about aquatic programs and assist with promotional materials, lesson schedules, and program information.

Facility Care & Daily Operations (10%): Help maintain pool cleanliness and sanitation by skimming pools, hosing decks, arranging deck furniture, and monitoring water conditions. Attend required trainings and meetings and support overall aquatic operations throughout the season.
