The Recreation Leader II works under general supervision to lead, teach, and supervise recreation programs, activities, and classes. This position is responsible for helping deliver quality recreation and sports programs that promote healthy, active lifestyles for community members of all ages.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Recreation Leader II reports to the Recreation Supervisor, Recreation and Sports Coordinator or Director of Community Services. This position assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating a variety of recreation programs, including sports, fitness, arts, and cultural activities. The Recreation Leader II is also responsible for helping maintain city equipment and facilities, promoting recreation opportunities, and supporting volunteers and community engagement efforts.   • Assist in planning and leading sports, recreation, and enrichment programs.
  • Communicate with participants and families to support program success.
  • Help research new program ideas and community needs.
  • Ensure a variety of safe, engaging, and age-appropriate activities are offered.
  • Provide program information and answer participant questions.
  • Supervise participants, volunteers, and facility space as needed.
  • Coordinate with recreation staff for scheduling and facility use.
  • Complete routine reports, forms, and attendance records.
The preceding activities have been provided as examples of the types of work performed by positions assigned to this job classification. The City reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind work assignments as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
  • Recreation and program coordination.
  • Coaching and teaching techniques.
  • Basic curriculum or activity planning.
  • Event organization
  • Emergency response procedures, First Aid, and CPR
Skill to:
  • Plan, organize, and implement recreational programs and events.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Operate standard office software and recreation-related equipment.
Ability to:
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Supervise part-time staff, volunteers, and program participants.
  • Resolve conflicts and respond calmly and efficiently in emergency situations.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of recreation programming or community services experience.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Required :
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current California C Drivers License and acceptable driving record must be maintained.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
Desirable :
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
Valid California Class C Drivers License. Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Equipment and Tools Utilized:
  • Personal computer, copier, fax and other office equipment; pens, pencils and other office tools.
  • City Vehicles.
  • Radios, cell phones and/or other communication devices.
  • Recreation and sports equipment as required by program activities.
