Job Description:

The Lifeguard position at the University of Northern Iowa is responsible for maintaining a safe and welcoming aquatic environment for students, faculty, staff, and guests. This position actively monitors pool activities to prevent accidents, enforces facility policies to ensure proper use of equipment and spaces, and responds quickly and effectively to emergency situations. Lifeguards help create a positive atmosphere where patrons can safely recreate and enjoy leisure activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor pool areas to ensure the safety of all patrons
  • Enforce facility rules and university policies
  • Respond to emergencies, administer first aid, and perform CPR/AED as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the aquatic facility
  • Provide excellent customer service and support to facility users

Requirements:

  • Current Lifeguard Certification
  • Current First Aid and CPR/AED Certifications
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification preferred

This position also requires strong attention to detail; effective communication skills; and the ability to remain calm and decisive in emergency situations. This is temporary, intermittent call-in position that is limited to 780 hours per fiscal year.

Hourly Rate: University Break Lifeguard $13.00, Special Event Lifeguard $15.00, University Break Special Event $17.50.
