Swim Instructor: Delano Community Education
Under the direction of the Director of Community Education, Swim Instructors deliver high-quality, safe, and engaging swimming lessons to community members of various ages and skill levels. Instructors are responsible for implementing the Tiger Swim Program curriculum, fostering a positive learning environment, and encouraging water safety and skill progression.
Areas of Responsibility
- Instructional Delivery & Lesson Planning
- Teach swim lessons according to the standards and levels of the Delano Tiger Swim Program curriculum.
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet the diverse learning styles, ages, and abilities of participants.
- Ensure all classes begin and end on time, Maximizing instructional time in the water.
- Student Safety & Supervision
- Maintain constant visual supervision of all students in the class at all times.
- Enforce pool safety rules strictly and work collaboratively with lifeguards on duty to ensure a safe environment.
- Assist students safely in and out of the water.
- Progress Tracking & Communication
- Assess students' skills accurately throughout the session and complete progress reports for each student.
- Provide constructive, positive feedback to students and clearly communicate progress to parents/guardians after lessons.
- Maintain accurate daily attendance records for assigned classes.
- Setup & Professionalism
- Assist with the setup and teardown of instructional equipment (kickboards, noodles, platforms, toys) before and after shifts.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
- Present a professional appearance by wearing the designated instructor uniform.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Delano Tiger Swim Program Certification (Must be completed prior to official start date; training provided via the Work Agreement pathway if requested).
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Experience & Skills
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Strong knowledge of swimming strokes, water safety principles, and teaching techniques.
- Exceptional patience, enthusiasm, and communication skillsespecially when working with young children.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently while following a structured curriculum.
Physical & Environmental Demands
- Physical Demands: Ability to remain in the water for extended periods (24 hours); ability to demonstrate swimming strokes; lifting or supporting children in the water; clear vocal projection in a loud acoustic environment.
- Environmental Conditions: Indoor pool environment with high humidity, warm water temperatures, and standard exposure to pool chemicals.
Position reports to: Director of Community Education
