SUMMARY

Responsible for lifeguarding free swim, Safety Around Water and swim instruction, while maintaining all waterfront areas and equipment for cleanliness and safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Be professional and alert at all times, guard all swimmers, and eliminate unsafe practices and physical hazards.

2. Supervise and test campers each session as to their ability level determined by the National YMCA Progressive standards.

3. Orientate staff, counselors, and volunteers as to their functions and duties while at the waterfront.

4. Coordinate through the Waterfront Director any changes in normal scheduling, special classes or events, or advance reservation for equipment or space.

5. Keep accurate attendance records for each group. Insure and motivate campers to participate unless excused through a medical note or permission from the Waterfront Director.

6. Administer proper first aid and carry out emergency procedures in the event of an accident.

7. Make requests and issue orders in a courteous and tactful manner.

8. Inspect, on a daily basis, all waterfront equipment and report any potential problems to the Waterfront Director.

9. Attend staff meetings as agreed upon as Camp Director.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Prior experience in lifeguarding.

Knowledge of canoeing and water games are helpful

REASOINING ABILITY

Ability to identify and address campers and staff needs to ensure safety and enjoyment. To accurately complete all required paperwork. To professionally handle and or get help to resolve conflict. Ability to follow instructions as given and/or directed by supervisor.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES

Must possess current YMCA Lifeguard Certificate

1. Must possess current YMCA Lifeguard certification.

2. Must possess current Rhode Island State Non-Surf and/or Surf Lifeguard Certification.

3. CPR/AED

4. O2 Administration

5. First Aid

It is the employee's responsibility to maintain all certifications and renew in a timely manner in accordance with certifying organization.
