Position Description: Under general supervision, the Assistant Recreation Coordinator plans and organizes regular activities/programs for a specific program area or site/facility. This position reports to the Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Supervisor. The Assistant Recreation Coordinator provides lead direction to lower-level workers in the program to which the position is assigned. This position does not exercise any supervisory responsibilities.Position Overview: The Assistant Recreation Coordinator serves as the on-site lead for an elementary school-based program operated in partnership with Elk Grove Unified School District. This is a fast-paced, dynamic position responsible for the daily care and supervision of 200+ school-age children and the leadership of a site team of approximately 15 staff, including Recreation Leaders, Specialists, and Site Directors. Working closely with the Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Supervisor, the Assistant Recreation Coordinator plays a key role in developing and implementing the annual site program plan and ensuring alignment with the mission and values of Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD). This position requires a high level of adaptability, operational oversight, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.Key Responsibilities: Provide daily, hands-on leadership for a high-quality Expanded Learning Afterschool Program. Supervise and support site staff to ensure a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment. Plan and organize activities and enrichment programs that support student development. Serve as the primary on-site liaison between Cosumnes CSD, school administrators, and families. Communicate effectively with caregivers, school staff, and District leadership. Uphold and model best practices in customer service, youth development, and program safety. Monitor program performance and help achieve specific annual operational goals. Participate in district-wide trainings, meetings, and events beyond the standard site hours. Work Schedule: Typical working hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM-6:00 PM, aligned with the EGUSD academic calendar. Occasional flexibility is required for evening or weekend events and district-wide trainings at various Cosumnes CSD locations. Actual hours may vary and are subject to change based on the department's needs.Salary InformationThe salary range for the Assistant Recreation Coordinator Leader classification is between $24.84 -$26.37 per hour. The District typically appoints new employees at step 1 of the salary range. Consideration for an appointment higher than step 1 will be based on experience, education, or the need for unique skills or knowledge, and shall be no more than the midpoint of the salary range. Plans, organizes, schedules, and evaluates assigned recreation programs or facilities; Works with Independent Contracted Instructors; Uses registration software to monitor program registration and contract status or participant payments; Provides courteous and professional service to all program participants, facility users, CSD personnel and the public; Accountable for all program participants during program hours; Completes and maintains reports and forms as necessary; Provides a safe and clean environment with adequate supervision by implementing guidelines from CSD and Department policies and procedures manuals; Reports any potentially unsafe conditions to supervisor; Responsible for, and may assist with, set up and clean up of facility and equipment; Enforces rules and regulations of programs and facilities as mandated by CSD policies; Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with Department safety standards and the CSD Injury and Illness Prevention Program; Purchases and maintains program/facility supplies and equipment in accordance with policy; Performs emergency procedures when needed; Coordinates with the private security service of the assigned program/facility and reports any security issues during assigned shift; Develops and implements program/facility surveys; Monitors behavior of participants; Arrives on time and in proper attire/appearance as required by CSD guidelines; Attends required training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth; Communicates with parents, participants and the public; discusses program concerns and participation issues and provides solutions when appropriate; Provides assistance to supervisors and lower-level staff as required; Makes recommendations and provides feedback to supervisory staff regarding, selection, training, discipline, evaluation and salary of lower level workers; Collects and reviews timesheets of lower level workers; Required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays; Assists with the preparation and monitoring of the program/facility budget; Assists in program/facility outreach and marketing; May plan and conduct staff meetings and participate in program planning and preparation; May collaborate with Facility/Recreation Supervisor to oversee the completion of reservation permits for recreation facility rentals; May act as department liaison to the community; May take part in various ad-hoc committees; May recruit, select, train, schedule and provide day to day lead direction to volunteers of the assigned program/facility; May perform front office duties in the absence of office staff; May perform duties in the absence of higher level staff as necessary.
