POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Aquatics is responsible for overseeing all aquatic services at the Aquatic Center at the YMCA, ensuring they engage participants and members in healthy lifestyles with a strong emphasis on safety and a quality member and program participant experience . This role manages the planning, organization, supervision, and quality of all aquatics programs and classes, as well as the maintenance and safety of pool equipment and staff. The Director is expected to stay current with industry best practices, implement effective safety and security procedures, and continuously improve programs to meet the needs of members and the community.

In this role, the Director of Aquatics manages the daily operations of the aquatics department, maintaining relationships and collaborating with community partners and assisting in, hiring, training, and supervising staff, and developing and monitoring program budgets to achieve financial goals. The Directors are responsible for ensuring constant and consistent hours of operations and communications. Pool hours updated and pre planned closures in a timely manner. The position supervises and provides support to the Assoc. Director of Aquatics & Member Safety, Missoula YMCA Swim Team (MYST) and its head coach. A key responsibility is to ensure that members and participants have a positive, high-quality experience in all aquatic programs and maintain consistent pool and staff schedules.

This position requires someone who can excel in the dynamic environment of a non-profit, community-focused organization. The Director of Aquatics must be flexible, adaptable to change, takes initiative and able to work effectively with limited supervision. The Director of Aquatics must work well with a team and the various departments and team members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

? Develops and implements a comprehensive aquatics program plan of open swim time, classes and swim team practices, member times and meets with special consideration to best practices for diversity, inclusion, equity and accessibility.

? Ensures hours of operation and services offered are constant and consistent communication of any preplanned closures ahead of time.

? Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, YMCA health and safety regulations.

? Offers quality member service and enhances member program experience.

? Promotes and incorporates the Ys core values and character development model into all program activities

? Supervises The Associate Director of Aquatics, The Head swim coach and supports all from & hires staff.

? Ensures the pool and aquatic center is adequately staffed and supported at all times.

? Is responsible for the Aquatic building with support of the COO and the aquatic budget including support for the MYST budget and maintaining budget.

? Conducts and ensures proper maintenance and cleanliness of pool, aquatics facilities and equipment, secures and schedules pool facilities, maintains records of pool chemical levels and maintenance along side Associate Director of Aquatics.

? Participates in the strategic planning for the department, develops, reviews and monitors annual department budget to meet fiscal objectives, makes adjustments and updates as needed and creates draft budgets

? Recruits, trains, develops and supervises all program staff including the MYST Head Coach, Aquatics Coordinator, lifeguards and swim instructors

? Schedules, monitors, supports, maintains regular communication with, and verifies and submits payroll for aquatics staff.

? Supports management staff to ensure the Aquatic Center and maintains hours of operation and swim lessons schedule.

? Hires and trains staff and conducts annual employee reviews

? Maintains records of staff certifications

? Works to achieve program enrollment goals and other departmental goals and objectives, compiles program statistics and reports, assists in the marketing and distribution of program information

? Works with other departments to innovate and expand pool and aquatics offerings

? Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with other community organizations, communication

? Assists in fund raising activities and special events in the department as well as the larger organization including the Annual Support Campaign, YMCA River Bank Run and schedule outside groups such as SPLASH.

? Provides exemplary customer service to program participants families (registration help, billing help, schedule changes, questions, etc.)

? Provide positive customer service experience to program families (registration and billing assistance as needed, schedule changes, questions, etc.), responds to inquires and complaints in a timely manner

? Responsible for safety of the individuals using the facilities and in programs and for the oversight and completion of required incident documentation

? Learns and uses participant names to build relationships and small communities and kindred groups

? Is generally available to answer questions and provide assistance regarding the Aquatic center and programs as well as general YMCA info.

? Completes required child sexual abuse prevention training and comply with legal and ethical obligation as a mandatory reporter of suspected child abuse and cooperate fully with any investigation of such abuse

? Maintains up to date an SOP binder for backup/delegate use, review annually with COO

? Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification

Required - Bachelors degree from a four year college or university; or one or two years relate experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Certified lifeguard.

? Frequently must be able to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, or up to 75 pounds with assistance.
