General Description:

The Student Activity Director (High School) oversees athletic and student activities and programs, and the associated facility use and maintenance. The Director also supports in the selection, assignment and evaluation of athletic coaches.

Essential Duties:

  • Organizes and schedules all interscholastic athletic and non-athletic events on campus and at off-site facilities to include equipment set up
  • Hires athletic officials and security personnel
  • Assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of all Virginia High School League (VHSL) and student activities held at the home school.
  • Manages the VHSL and RPS student GPA academic semester and overall requirements
  • Manages and trains coaches to assist in the growth and development of student athletes
  • Trains staff in crisis management situations
  • Arranges transportation for VHSL and student activities as applicable
  • Enforces appropriate rules and regulations governing conduct at student activities
  • Prepares and administers the activities program budget and requisitions; maintains fiscal responsibility for assigned budgets to include program fundraising and ticket sales
  • Supervises the maintenance of supplies, uniforms and equipment for athletic and non-athletic programs
  • Supports the preparation for school-based events which includes use of indoor and outdoor spaces
  • Administers the insurance program covering athletes and assumes responsibility for processing all reports and claims
  • Maintains the required records for all athletic contests, assigned student activities, and other competitive activities
  • Plans and supervises an annual recognition program for all students who participate in activities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; in athletics or sports leadership preferred; Master’s degree preferred
  • Considerable knowledge of and experience with Virginia High School League (VHSL) program development and management required
  • Ability to build an effective student-centered program that has a positive impact on the school culture and climate
  • Experience in budget and project management
  • Strong organizational skills, including keen attention to detail and ease at managing competing demands and determining priorities independently
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; adaptable when managing multiple, shifting priorities; comfortable with ambiguity
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex ideas simply and succinctly
  • Bilingual/fluency in Spanish preferred
  • Ability to spend several hours daily standing, kneeling, bending, walking, and climbing
  • Ability to lift and carry 20 pounds or more
  • Ability to work outdoors to include exposure to hot/cold, wet/humid weather conditions and dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises
