JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Aquatics Manager will assist the Aquatics Manager in covering pool shifts as a shift leader as well as assist with the development and management of programming and daily operations of the Aquatics Department. This person will effectively manage and supervise all pool personnel during his or her assigned shifts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As a member of the RJKCCC Management Team, the Assistant Manager will assist the Aquatics Manager in the day-to-day operation of the aquatics programs and facilities.
    • Assist in the development of programming and monitor all programs relevant to the aquatic areas.
    • Recognize the spiritual need of individuals, which may require referral to the officer/pastor who is an ordained minister of religion.
    • Maintain an office support system that will allow for timely and accurate record keeping as directed, including the areas of statistical reports, record of volunteer activity, accounting of expenditures and other reporting as required. This information must be turned into the Kroc Office by the 5 th of each month.
    • Work in concert with the Events Team to plan and facilitate external group rentals.
    • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
    • Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center.
    • Work with Marketing Team to promote program materials that attract new members and revenue. This includes opportunities for fund raisers in each program or sponsorships so that each program can be sufficient within the Kroc formula of financing.
    • Organize, develop and provide oversight and evaluation of the swim team. Assure Red Cross safety standards are enforced. Community Liaison
    • Assist in the development of cooperative ventures that engage other community groups in the development of programs related to the aquatic facilities of the RJKCCC.
  • Leadership to Staff
    • Ensure all areas have competent, certified and trained employees committed to the mission of RJKCCC and The Salvation Army.
    • This position directly supervises all Aquatics staff and volunteers in the absence of the Aquatics Manager and during an assigned shift.
    • Work with aquatics manager in establishing working objectives for volunteers that will assist in the aquatic programs and facilities; work with volunteer coordinator on the scheduling and specific duties for volunteers. Review of the Manual for Volunteers.
    • Maintain clear channels of communication with staff, volunteers and program participates. This will include writing of internal memos, weekly department meetings, work schedules, flyers newsletters and one on one discussions.
    • Ensure that all staff is trained in Safe from Harm and proper guidelines are followed.
  • Meetings and Communication .
    • Attend all scheduled aquatic staff meetings and other management meetings as assigned.
    • Ensure that bulletin boards are maintained and reflect current and appropriate information.
    • Help to maintain an accurate calendar of events and daily schedule of the aquatic programs and facility usage for internal and external programs.
  • Facilities/Safe Working Environment
    • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Staff is trained on program related safety procedures.
  • Report all harmful problems with facilities to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
    • Assist in the development of systems that safeguard all facilities, supplies and equipment related to the aquatic program and facilities of the RJKCCC.
    • Ensure you follow the Emergency Disaster Evacuation Plan for the aquatics area.
    • Conduct (regularly) and maintain a written Fire Drill Plan for the aquatics area as assigned.
    • Ensure that injuries that occur involving staff are reported timely and according to procedure as outlined in the HR Manual.
    • Ensure that Liability injuries during your shift are reported timely and according to procedure.
    • Ensure that all equipment assigned to the aquatic facilities is maintained and properly inventoried during your shift.
    • Help to maintain under staff supervision an equipment checkout program. Have it include checks before and after use for defects, repair, etc. and discard defective equipment in accordance with procedures.
    • Review all safety information and postings to make sure they are read and followed in the pool area and facility.
  • Payroll
    • Help enforce the pool working schedule for your department based on the needs of your program and the approved hours and status of employment.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Leadership is provided for other Kroc Center projects as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Education: Bachelors Degree in Recreation Management, Aquatics Management or related field preferred.

Experience : Minimum of two years experience in Aquatics Management with a staff of at least 15.

Certifications:

  • Have or obtain within three months a valid Illinois Drivers License and insured transportation and be able to meet The Salvation Armys requirements.
  • Possession of current certificates in American Red Cross First Aid or First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title22) or above; CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR Pro), and Lifeguard Training. Equivalent training certificates may be accepted
  • Must become Certified Pool Operator , Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certified within 6 months of hire
  • Must Be Safe from Harm certified within 30 days of hire.

JOB LIMITATIONS

This individual will only commit resources that have been allocated or approved.

This individual will keep the Aquatics Manager or Administrator abreast of all critical issues and decisions relating to his/her area of responsibility.

This individual will adhere to all Army policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position and accurately represent the mission of the RJKCCC and The Salvation Army.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is required to do moderate physical work. To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC. They are also required to do swimming activities from time to time and lift swimming equipment that can be heavy. At times they will be expected to participate in community center activities. The work environment for this position includes a community center environment with a medium-to-high noise level. This employee may be required to drive on occasion. Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs.
