Athletic Director
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and schedule events related to the middle and high school athletic program.
- Manage and direct the day-to-day operation of the school district's interscholastic athletic program.
- Working to establish and support leadership opportunities for athletes
- Establish and lead an athletic program that centers on student development and healthy attitudes of physical wellness and sportsmanship.
- Establish and enforce the physical, academic and training requirements of eligibility for participation.
- Liaison to athletic booster group and attends related meetings.
- Support and assist with developing district policies as it pertains to athletic program.
- Recruiting, selecting, orientating, supervising and evaluating athletic personnel.
- Responsible for athletic budget.
- Maintain membership/leadership and represent the District in MHSAA, county and local conference organizations relative to athletics.
- Research, recommend, and purchase athletic equipment for the athletic programs.
- Represent the School District in matters of interscholastic athletics from secondary leagues to the MHSAA.
- Continuously evaluate effectiveness of athletic programs, appropriate rules, regulations and safety procedures and protocols governing the conduct of athletic activities.
- Maintain athletic media, such as Twitter and website, etc.
- Foster and promote communication and mutual understanding between staff, parents and students.
- Carry out Board policies and administrative procedures.
- Work with the maintenance department to keep the facilities running in a proper and safe manner and assure cleanliness of area by coordination with custodial staff.
- Be present for all athletic events, as needed.
- Other duties and responsibilities as determined by the Superintendent, and/or Human Resource Director.
Education Qualification and Experience:
- Experience directing a high school athletic program or five years of experience as a head coach at the varsity level or a combination of experience.
- Master's Degree in Administration, Sports Management or Educational Leadership is preferred.
- Commitment and understanding of the districts academic goals for all scholar athletes.
- Prior experience working with youth in a middle and high school sports program.
- Course work or training in organization and administration of athletic programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and experience with MHSAA regulations.
- Successful experience supervising multiple groups and organizing all season athletics.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with staff, students, parents and community members and proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and parent groups.
- Proven track record of developing and maintaining a team work environment and proven background to resolve conflicts.
- Must possess personal maturity, patience, and dependability.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently without direct supervision. Ability to manage and coordinate multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
