POSITION: Strength and Conditioning Coach
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education or Related Field
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)-National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)-or Relevant Professional Certification
- Certified CPR-Red Cross
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director/Building Principal
GENERAL SUMMARY:
To assume the responsibility and obligation of establishing and maintaining a strength and conditioning program for all sports.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and supervise weight/speed training and conditioning programs for all sports in season, off-season, and pre-season.
- Plan and schedule a regular program of weight training and conditioning practice in coordination with the head coach of each sport that meets the needs of that sport.
- Design and supervise weight-training and conditioning programs for all sports at the middle schools during in-season, off-season, and pre-season, in cooperation with the athletic directors of each school.
- Teach strength and conditioning classes.
- Develop a working relationship with the coaching staff.
- Monitor effective working relationships with middle school coaches in strength-and-conditioning programs.
- Operate and maintain the weight room at Byrnes High School.
- Set up and monitor all rules and regulations that are to be followed by all users of the Byrnes High School weight room.
- Recommend purchase of equipment and supplies as is appropriate.
- Maintain the necessary attendance forms, workout schedules, and progress charts for each athlete.
- Oversee the safety conditions of the weight room facility.
- Enforce discipline and sportsmanship at all times, and establish and oversee penalties for breaches of these standards by individual students.
- Prepare and submit a complete inventory of weight equipment to the athletic office at the end of the season.
- Work in cooperation with the athletic trainers to rehabilitate and strengthen injured athletes.
- Must prepare the team for, and attend, local strength meet competitions with student athletes.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques athletes need to participate in their particular sport(s) is preferred. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Work surfaces will vary from concrete to grass to hardwood floors. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After-hours work may be required. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
