Job Summary
Position responsible for leading, directing, and supporting system-wide strategic initiatives in accordance with established system goals and benchmarks for specific Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (SM&R) and Ironman Sports Medicine Institute (ISMI). Responsible programs in these specific areas include Research, Education, Residency, Human Performance, ISMI strategy and Sports Specific opportunities. Job DescriptionMinimum Qualifications
Education: Masters degree in a rehab specialty such as Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Recreational Therapy, or Speech Pathology required. Doctorate, preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current license to practice Physical Therapy by Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners or by the Physical Therapy Compact Commission, or
- Current License to practice Occupational Therapy by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners, or
- Certified Recreational Therapist.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- Seven (7) years of clinical experience.
- Four (4) years of supervisory experience.
Principal Accountabilities
Across the SM&R and ISMI strategic priority; directs, evaluates and leads specific programs in priority areas including: Human Performance, Research and Education, and Sports Dietician.
Develops, implements, and monitors the operating budget for the defined span of control. Forecasts expenses, identifies non-capital and capital equipment needs, and completes financial reports as necessary.
Provides leadership, direction and mentoring to staff in an environment of professionalism and respect.
Operates in conjunction with the VP of Orthopedic Service Line on contracting, business development and programmatic opportunities directly related to affiliated, professional and collegiate sports organizations.
Evaluates and improves operations of defined business units on an ongoing basis, utilizing principles of continuous process improvement, involving staff and other departments as appropriate.
Participates in community activities to promote SM&R and ISMI including partnerships with youth sports teams and school district.
Assists the Director of Residency to develop and oversee the complete strategy, structure, implementation, and measurable success of the PT Residency Program for Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Guides the PT Residency director and support staff to develop the vision and implementation for the PT education and residency program. Serve as the liaison between the residency program and all the partnering hospitals, clinics, and academic entities in partnership with the Director of Residency program.
a. Mentoring for residents in clinical care, research, and education
b. Provide insight and leadership to Director of Residency on future residency development
Provides direct oversight on the system strategy related to ATH including contracting, business development and programmatic growth.
Develops and lead research agenda for ISMI
a. In conjunction with medical director and sports medicine physicians
b. Develop collaborative relationship between Orthopedic surgeons and Physical Therapists to foster culture of evidence-based practice
c. Expand research agenda across the system (multiple clinical sites)
d. Develop national reputation for sports medicine research
Develops and lead education for sports physical therapists, athletic trainers, sports performance personnel through conferences and continuing education at regional and national level.
Develops and foster relationships with orthopedic and sports medicine physicians affiliated with ISMI.
a. Encourage physician buy-in for research and education
b. Promotes confidence in personnel providing sports medicine services (sports physical therapy, sports performance, sports nutrition, etc.)
Provides patient care of sports medicine population in conjunction with research and residency program.
Presents relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
