This position plays a vital role in keeping athletes and active individuals performing at their best. This position focuses on the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries across a diverse populationfrom student-athletes to professionals and patients. The ideal candidate brings strong clinical expertise, a commitment to evidence-based care, and the ability to communicate effectively while building trust with those they serve. KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical issues, and have a strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and sports medicine principles. Assessment, evaluation skills, and working with other healthcare professionals will be required. Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines. Attention to Detail: Athletic trainers should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation. EDUCATION: Accredited Athletic Training degree. Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or a related field. Master's degree preferred. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: Current certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC). Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure in Montana. BLS certification required. APTITUDES: Ability to achieve cognitive, organizational, and emotional maturity to deal effectively with multiple tasks, stresses, deadlines, difficult situations, and/or patients. Ability to conduct oneself professionally, including but not limited to: interpersonal/communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental, and empathetic patient care and customer relations. Open to feedback and open to a changing environment, which requires flexibility in scheduling and department assignments. Injury Prevention & Care Develop and implement injury prevention programs, including pre-participation screenings and conditioning exercises, ergonomic evaluation and coaching, and overall wellness promotion Provide immediate and emergency care for athletic injuries Utilize a variety of therapeutic modalities and techniques, such as electrotherapy, manual therapy, and therapeutic exercise Apply protective and supportive devices, including taping, bracing, and splinting Rehabilitation Design, implement, and supervise comprehensive rehabilitation programs for injured athletes/patients, from acute injury to return-to-play Monitor patient progress, document outcomes, and adjust treatment plans accordingly Documentation & Administration Maintain accurate and detailed medical records and injury reports using the electronic health record (EHR) system Ensure compliance with all state and national regulations and professional standards Manage and maintain athletic training facilities and equipment Answer phones in real time, return patient messages, and coordinate communication between the care team and patients Collaborate with the care team, assist with walk-ins, and scheduled appointments Collaboration & Communication Work collaboratively with physicians, school coaches, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to patient care Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies Provide on-site coverage for practices and competitions, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required Quality Improvement Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives Identify opportunities to enhance patient care and organization operations Works collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team, co-workers, physicians, and the community, emphasizing a teamwork environment
