Position Title: Lifeguard Instructor

Department: DPW / Recreation

Employment Status: Chapter 7 Ordinance, Non-Exempt; Full-Time (Seasonal)

Salary: $19.00 per hour Up to 4 Hours Weekly

Schedule: Sundays (Dependent on Pool Operating Hours)

Certifications/Licenses Required: Massachusetts Class D Driver's License preferred, Certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or Y.M.C.A., American Red Cross Adult/Pediatric First Aid and C.P.R./A.E.D., American Red Cross Adult/Pediatric First Aid, American Heart Association Basic First Aid, American Heart Association C.P.R./A.E.D. and W.S.I. preferred

SUMMARY

The City of Chicopee's Recreation Division is hiring a Lifeguard Instructor whose duties may include Lifeguarding of pool, written maintenance logs, participation in-service training and working with the public. Individuals are also responsible for general maintenance of the pool or park and assistance with learn to swim program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE

Follows weekly life guarding schedule for the main pool.
Maintains the appearance and safety of the pool and all of its surrounding areas.
In proper uniform, attentive, using rescue equipment, and at proper lifeguard station while on duty.
Assures the safety of all patrons.
Assist in daily learn to swim program as assigned by the Instructor Guard as needed.
Assists Head Lifeguard in cleaning of pool.
Responsible for testing pool chemicals when requested by instructor or head guard.

QUALIFICATIONS

Massachusetts Class D Driver's License. - Preferred
Certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or Y.M.C.A., American Red Cross Adult/Pediatric First Aid and C.P.R./A.E.D., American Red Cross Adult/Pediatric First Aid, American Heart Association Basic First Aid, American Heart Association C.P.R./A.E.D. and W.S.I. - Preferred
High School Diploma/G.E.D. - Preferred. Or must have completed 11th Grade
Age 16+ - Required
At least six (6) months of related experience in lifeguarding of pools or open water. - Preferred
General knowledge of pools, pool maintenance and customer service. - Preferred
