General Definition of Work

General Description: Jacksonville Recreation has indoor and outdoor facilities throughout the City and include year-round programs, classes and events including summer concerts, camps, movies, team sports and many more activities for all ages. There are 19 parks and 20+ miles of greenways and trails. We are a waterway City with easy access to fishing and water sports and are close to Onslow beaches.

The City of Jacksonville is looking for a Scorekeeper to perform basic semiskilled work monitoring a variety of athletic events; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Athletic Program Supervisor.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks

Monitoring athletic events; recording scores; ensuring participant and spectator safety; preparing courts and fields; preparing and maintaining records and files.

• Assists with setup and teardown of filed/gym; set up or breakdown of bases, nets, goals etc.
• Sets up and operates scoreboard control panel.
• Tracks and records event score and time.
• Ensures lineup cards are completed by coaches at least 15 minutes prior to game time.
• Records teams into scorebook.
• Completes score sheets and official evaluation sheets and submits to Athletic Coordinator.
• Performs related tasks as required.

Required Education and Experience

Student at the High School level or higher.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of the equipment and techniques necessary to successfully monitor recreation programs; general knowledge of the methods involved in conducting and supervising recreation activities; some knowledge of computer software appropriate to programs; general knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions to be used in recreation work; ability to express ideas clearly both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, associates and the general public.
